Paris 2024 Windsurfer invitation to tender released

At World Sailing's 2019 Mid-Year Meeting in London, Great Britain, World Sailing's Council, the main decision making body of the federation, voted on key decisions around the Paris 2024 Olympic Sailing Competition Equipment.
World Sailing's Board of Directors recommended to Council to select the RS:X as the Men's and Women's Windsurfer Equipment as a result of a re-evaluation process. World Sailing's Council rejected the recommendation which meant that the Board of Directors had to propose a new recommendation to the Council.

The Board's new recommendation proposed conducting sea trials before World Sailing's Council selects the Equipment at the 2019 Annual Conference:
That Council shall select equipment following sea trials;
That the existing equipment (RS:X) is included as a full option in the sea trials;
That the sea trials seek to evaluate foiling and non-foiling equipment equally;
That the evaluation follows a new invitation to manufacturers and class associations to tender to be selected;
That the evaluation is carried by a Working Party appointed by the Equipment and Events Committees against an updated set of criteria to be approved by both committees.

This recommendation was approved by World Sailing's Council with 33 members in favour, three against and one abstention.

World Sailing is now inviting manufacturers and Class Associations to tender to be selected as the Men's and Women's Windsurfer equipment to be used at the 2024 Olympic Sailing Competition.

Further information on sea trials venue and dates will be released in due course.

Under Regulation 21.1.3 (e), the decision on selecting the Equipment has to be made before 31 December 2019 and a decision is expected to be made early November at the 2019 Annual Conference in Bermuda.
